Some Stats To Consider
Women earn 70% of fine arts degrees in the U.S. We acknowledge that men are more likely to be discouraged from pursuing art, yet in commercial galleries and art museums, 87% of the artwork is by men.
Between 2008 and 2022, art by women represented just 3.3% of total sales.
And female museum directors earn 75 cents on the dollar
compared to their male peers.
Elevate:
We recognize, highlight, archive and promote the artwork, lives, practices and stories of Colorado women artists.
We bring them to the public in exciting and inspiring ways.
Encourage:
We create and provide unique programs, classes, activities, events, experiences and exhibitions.
We work to enthuse, educate and motivate artists and non-artists alike.
We offer women artists the space to interact, support and learn from each other.
And invite the public to learn and grow as well.
Exhibit:
We bring Colorado women artists’ work to exhibition spaces throughout Colorado .
We partner with the state's and region's art museums, art centers and arts organizations
to bring the artwork of Colorado women artists to the forefront.
We'll be the first state in the nation to offer a world-class museum dedicated to the artwork of the state’s women artists.
It will add dimension to our other museums and tourist destinations, such as
the Denver Art Museum, Kirkland, Clifford Still, Colorado History,
Colorado Women’s History, Contemporary Art Museum, and others.

We've chosen this direction because of the extraordinary population of women artists living and working in Colorado.
In 2016 a call to the state's women artists to gather for a photo on an October day in Denver attracted women artists to show up.
We know this is just a fraction of the thousands of women artists living, working and participating in the many arts communities throughout Colorado.
We were delighted to have Colorado women artists show up for this photo in March 2024.
Our second exhibition in January 2024 featured artwork from four local collectors and highlighted the artwork of over 30 Colorado.
Our goal in this exhibition was again to shine a light on the extraordinary depth and breadth of the women artists living and working in Colorado.
We were delighted to have an afternoon talk with all the collectors present to speak about how and why they have collected what they collect. They also shared stories about several pieces in their collections and what brought them to bring them into their personal lives. The common thread between them was the personal connection with the artwork and/or artist and what it meant to them to live with these works.
It's our mission to elevate, encourage and exhibit Colorado Women Artists.
Our inaugural exhibition in August of 2023 what jam-packed with the artwork of 80 Colorado women artists from the private collections of Annette Coleman, Carrie MaKenna and Jean Smith, who are Colorado women artists themselves.
Our goal in this exhibition was to show just a snippet of the extraordinary depth and breadth of the women artists living and working in Colorado.
We also recognize the significant lack of representation of artwork by women visual artists in commercial galleries and museums nationwide and in Colorado.
Women comprise half the population and are currently only about 13-17% of the artists you can find in exhibitions.
And so we commit to the mission of elevating, encouraging and exhibiting Colorado Women Artists.
